If you are European, you are entitled to medical treatment that becomes necessary, at reduced cost or sometimes free, when temporarily visiting any one of the European Union (EU) countries. Only treatment provided under the state scheme is covered. However, to obtain treatment you will need to take a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you.
How do I get EHIC?
The best thing is that this card is free of charge and you can apply for it online. The only pre-requirement is to have a valid NHS or National Insurance Number.
So all you need to do is to fill in the European Health Insurance Card application and wait for couple of weeks before it arrives.
Basically, the best thing about this card is that you do not actually need to take out Travel Insurance when travelling within European Union as long as you carry this card in your purse/wallet (if an accident happens).
